Word of Caution for Apache2 and diaspora* Admins

I'd hate to think that I am the only one experiencing this. DO NOT USE APACHE2 v2.4.41 without disabling TLS1.3 and diaspora together, or your connections will timeout!
On Apache2 v2.4.38, if I curl -v https://nota.404.mn I get this:
* TLSv1.3 (OUT), TLS handshake, Client hello (1):
* TLSv1.3 (IN), TLS handshake, Server hello (2):
* TLSv1.3 (IN), TLS handshake, Encrypted Extensions (8):
* TLSv1.3 (IN), TLS handshake, Certificate (11):

* TLSv1.3 (IN), TLS handshake, Finished (20):
* TLSv1.3 (OUT), TLS change cipher, Change cipher spec (1):

Once you upgrade to v2.4.41, and do the same command:
* TLSv1.3 (OUT), TLS handshake, Client hello (1):
* TLSv1.3 (IN), TLS handshake, Server hello (2):
* TLSv1.3 (IN), TLS Unknown, Certificate Status (22):

Hi folks,

some of you may have followed my recent post concerning the possible shutdown of this pod. If you have not, have a look at the following post: https://pod.thomasdalichow.de/posts/1377103#18d54900cb8b0137c662005056008410

From the feedback of this post as well as additional thoughts that have gone into the topic, mostly hailing from the security front, I have come to the conclusion to shut down this pod. It's a bit more than one month from now. 2019-11-16, 04:00 PM (UTC+1).

That being said, here are the steps I will take in order to shut down this pod:
* closing registrations on this pod
* inform you in the form of this post
* send a mail to every user registered on my pod in a couple of days
* shut down the pod at the specified date

Up until the date of shutdown, you will have the possibility to download your data (visit https://pod.thomasdalichow.de/user/edit and scroll to the very bottom). After the date of shutdown, you will neither be able to use the pod nor download your data.

I will immediately erase every data concerning this pod and the data of the users having an account here. It will however take two months to rotate out of my backup cycle. So the data will eventually be erased some time in January 2020.

Wtih one freed IPv4 address at my disposal, I will - in time - set up a different service to contribute to a decentralized world of encrypted communication or encrypted data sharing. However, I have not yet decided what this service will be. If you know of any decentralized communication network that needs another node, a short comment would be very much appreciated.

Well then. Good bye and thanks for all the fish!
Thomas

Scheduled Downtime

Hello everyone. Hope you are having a great weekend! Today at 17:00 UTC time, I am going to take the server down. The reason I am going to take it down is that the server currently using a WiFi connection. I would like to reduce the local traffic here as the server obviously takes up a lot of bandwidth. Anyway, I finally got around to buying a CAT 6 cable and am going to hard wire the server directly to the router. Because the IP address is going to change, I'm going to have to edit a lot of *.conf for the web server. I am also going to take a backup and do some updates. I expect the downtime to last around 75 minutes.

Thank you for your patience.

I have it set up for IE and Mobile users to go to /test and everyone else to go to /alpha. I really like /alpha and think it has real potential. Please, check it out and let me know what you think! Any feedback at all is greatly appreciated. P.S. I currently have my library on shuffle, so, you have been warned about what you'll get!

If you are now seeing this, I apologize for not saying anything but it was a last minute decision to shut down my server: it was working... but unresponsive. I then took the time to take a backup (some stats for you, even though I just installed a nice, new 2TB SSD coupled with the fact that I am running Ubuntu 16.04 inside an Oracle VM on a Windows 10 Pro PC, the file size is now at 167GB for my .vdi file!!!!! and takes almost 20 minutes to copy it). Any who, sorry for the partial down time and will try and do a better job at conveying that fact in the future. Thanks!
